The Wasaga Beach Lions Club
recently took part in a Lions Green Team initiative to help the environment by
providing $1,000 for the 2nd Wasaga Beach Scouts to plant 850 trees
in the Lamont Creek area. This project
has given our club an opportunity to improve the environment while working in
conjunction with the youth. Paul Yarmola, president of the Wasaga Beach Lions Club, says “This Lions Green Team project
improved the environment and our community at the same time. It exemplifies our
ongoing commitment to provide a healthier
and safer place to live, work and
play. An important part of Lions Club Internationals extension of service this
year will be caring for our environment. Our International President Tams goal
this year is to plant a million trees around the world. It’s no secret that trees help the
environment, but you may be surprised by all the benefits that planting a tree
can provide. Trees are like the lungs of the planet.
They breathe in carbon dioxide
and breathe out oxygen.
They also reduce erosion to save
soil, help preserve local water sources, and provide habitat for wildlife
living under more and more stress.
Simply put, planting trees in
your neighborhood really is one of the best things you can do for the local
environment. As of this month, Lions around the world have planted over
9,300,000 trees!
If you would like to help us
